Ariel Lanyi plays Mozart

Suffolk’s classical music fans gave rapturous applause to one of the world’s fastest-rising stars of classical music, pianist Ariel Lanyi, who joined Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra to perform Mozart’s Piano concerto No.20 at The Apex on Sunday 16 July 2023.

Stupendous playing from a rising star

Selected by the Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) to perform with the county’s fully professional orchestra, Ariel's appearance with SPO was part of a series of unique performing opportunities around the world. Alasdair Tait, CEO and Artistic Director, YCAT said: "We're delighted to have the support of Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra in promoting young classical artists at the start of their careers."

Leslie Olive, conductor of SPO, said: “This wonderful concert proved that audiences don’t have to travel to The Royal Albert Hall to hear stupendous playing. This final concert in our Celebration Sunday series was a rousing success and a fitting finale to the outstanding young players who have graced our stage this season – trumpeter Christian Barraclough, clarinettist Matthew Glendening, violinist Yume Fujise and Ariel Lanyi.

“Our thanks to YCAT for giving us the opportunity to showcase such incredible talent here in the heart of Suffolk.”

Under the musical direction of Leslie Olive and led by Julian Milone, the orchestra also performed Beethoven’s Symphony No.1 and the overture to the opera “Amadis” by Johann Christian Bach.

The audience said...

“Truly fantastic as always”
“Terrific – great concert”
“Amazing experience – loved every moment”
“Absolutely brilliant – the pianist was amazing”
“Absolutely excellent. Outstanding. Our first experience of Suffolk Philharmonic. We’ll be back for more”
