"World class musicians who make magic in our communities – turning the everyday into something extraordinary...”

Covid19 and our hopes for 2021

Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra's programmes are temporarily suspended, but behind the scenes we are busily at work planning for a hoped-for future, including agreeing putative dates with our concert venues.

All three of our core activities - our Community Concerts, our Education days and our full orchestral concerts - are in the planning stage and the details will be announced here when it is clearer what future plans might be appropriate.

Three major orchestral events originally scheduled for March, June, and October 2020 have been re-scheduled for 2021, and we look forward to having your company in Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds, and Ely. All forward dates are of course provisional at the moment, but if you are the kind of person who likes to have dates in the diary - even in pencil - this is what MIGHT happen:

Ipswich Corn Exchange

Originally planned for March 2020, we hope to move this concert to Mothers' Day 2021, which is Sunday 14th March 2021

Subject to confirmation by Ipswich Borough Council.

St Edmundsbury Cathedral

Dvorak: "New World" Symphony

NEW COMMISSION: "Into the Light", by Paul Carr

Originally planned for October 2020, we hope to move this concert to

either Saturday 22nd or Saturday 29th May 2021.

Subject to confirmation from Bury Festival and St Edmundsbury Cathedral

SPO at the ISLE OF ELY FESTIVAL - June 2021

Thomas Gould, violin, plays Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto

with Mendelssohn Hebrides Overture and Italian Symphony.

We have provisionally been offered the date of:

Saturday 26th June 2021.

Subject to final confirmation from Ely Cathedral and the Isle of Ely Festival.

We also have pencil dates in the diary for concerts at The Apex, Bury St Edmunds, on:

Sunday 18th July 2021

Saturday 9th October 2021

OUR VISION - Great music is for everyone

The Suffolk Philharmonic vision is that great music is for everyone. We work collaboratively to bring enjoyment, to educate and to strengthen community.

Our major concerts programme brings together some of the finest orchestral musicians in the land to provide full orchestral concerts within reach of everyone.

In partnership with other community agencies we share that world-class playing across rural Suffolk through our free Community concerts - "village hall concerts" - which make a valued contribution to the challenges of loneliness and rural isolation.

In collaboration with the County Music Service and Suffolk schools, our Education programme supports young musicians, encourages musical composition, and shares the therapeutic qualities of great music.
