Artistic Director Leslie Olive explains our vision and the need for your support

Our Vision

We aim to do three things:

  • To offer orchestral playing across Suffolk by players of the highest level of professionalism, both in the main venues and also in the smaller towns and the villages
  • To take smaller Community Concerts to people who, for whatever reason, have limited or no access to live classical music
  • To draw children and young people into the experience of great music

We aim to offer the full range of music for orchestra, but within that to have a special focus on the music of English and other UK composers.

Presenting an orchestra of full-time professional players and welcoming solo artists of global reputation inevitably makes significant financial demands.

We aim always to offer a wide Leslie Oliverange of ticket prices, designed to make our music as accessible as possible, while at the same time inviting those best able to do so to pay something approaching the true value of their ticket.

But even with those arrangements in place, ticket revenues meet only a fraction of the true cost of a major concert – typically in the region of one-third; so your help is absolutely vital.

The Conductors Circle

Join a group of people who share the excitement of the SPO’s vision with an annual donation of £1,001 or more.

This support underpins the orchestra’s main activities and offers regular contact with the Orchestra, its Music Director and musicians.

Gifts in Wills

To help secure the long-term future of the Suffolk Philharmonic, you might consider leaving a gift in your Will, once you have provided for family and friends.

Suffolk solicitors Ashton KCJ will help you create your legacy at a special fee rate when you make a gift to the Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra. Please contact us for details.

Sponsor a Player

One of the most helpful ways of supporting the orchestra is to sponsor one or more players, either for a single concert or for a series.

You will have the opportunity, if you wish, to meet “your” player(s) and enjoy a uniquely personal engagement with the orchestra and its music-making.

A Concert in Memory

To celebrate the life of someone for whom music meant a great deal, a concert in memory can be absolutely right.

Please contact us if you would like to explore this possibility.
